5 Holistic Healing Techniques For Women In Their 50s

As you grow older you may start to feel wiser but you can also feel the effects of aging on your body. The morning may start to feel a bit slower, bending down may feel a bit more difficult and your body overall may start to ache. This can be a difficult change, especially during menopause where estrogen levels tend to drop causing tiredness and a change in your mood and body over all. Whilst there are medications and prescription that can try to help with this, many would rather seek more naturally occurring remedies which can not only help them to feel better physically but also mentally.

However with so many healing techniques to be found all around the internet it can be difficult to decide which ones could work for you and which ones you can start to implement into your life to make a difference to your health.

So, if you want to introduce holistic health and healing into your life at a later stage of your life, here are 5 holistic healing techniques which can help to improve how you feel mentally and physically.

1. Yoga and gentle movement

One of the most popular ways to heal yourself holistically as you mature is through yoga and gentle movement. Not only does this kind of movement help to release endorphins which can help you to feel happier overall, but it can help to keep your body moving which can have a positive effect on your muscles and joints. As you age, your muscles start to waste and weaken as hormones change. This means, however, that you need to participate in consistent exercise to ensure that your body is maintaining its strength.

Many however want to shy away from high impact exercise as it is too straining, which is why yoga is the perfect form of exercise as it is low impact and helps to build strength and mind to body connection whilst also looking after your mind. Many choose to do yoga from their own homes south of comfort or attend mature classes where they can bond with others. Try to focus on exercises that support hip opening and glute strength to protect against falls and balance issues which can be common in later stages of life and can spiral into other issues.

2. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine which involves the use of needles in pressure spots to try and relieve stress and other issues. It can also help to regulate nervous systems imbalances which are common late in life for mature women which can help with hot flashes, fatigue and sleep disturbances.

This treatment can be done as often or little as you like and can act as a medical spare where you can relax and practice mindfulness whilst your body heals.Over all acupuncture can help to naturally support hormone transitions without heavy reliance on pharmaceutical interventions.

3. Mindful meditation and breathwork

Calming the central nervous system through daily meditation can not just help you to feel calmer in the short term, but it can also help to promote overall calmness in the long term. Often aging and life changes can add more stress which can affect your hormones and add more stress to a woman’s life. However, through mindfulness and meditation, you can try to combat this stress. Specialised techniques like the extended exhale and other breathing techniques can support you in healing your mind through relaxing your heart rate and slowing down your body.

4. Holistic nutrition and hydration

Later in life we can start to forget how to nourish and make sure that the body is properly looked after through nutrition. Opting to eat whole and unprocessed foods and instead opting to eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals such as calcium, vitamin d and antioxidants support bone and hormone balance which is lower as you mature. Tracking your food intake not through calories but what makes you and your body feels good is the healthiest way to create a good relationship with food and ensure that you are gaining all of the correct nutrients.

Filing yourself properly is very important especially if you’ve experienced a fall which resulted in multiple injury claims as the fuel that you intake will affect the healing process and how you feel after your injury.

5. Massage

As you age, you may feel a bit stiffer and ache more than usual. This is where massage comes in as using oils for lymphatic drainage and muscle massage can encourage circulation, reduce those morning muscle ages and aid the body’s natural detoxification. Not only can you feel the physical benefits of massage as it can also help with relaxation and stress at this time of life which can prove stressful.
